Thyroid disease is one of the most undiagnosed, misdiagnosed, overlooked and under treated diseases throughout the world! What are common Thyroid Disorders
Hypothyroidism (Underactive thyroid) The most common disorder in which the thyroid gland produces less hormones (T3 & T4). In response, TSH level rises. Common Symptoms are Fatigue & Tiredness, Weight gain, Drowsiness, Depression, Forgetfulness, Hoarse voice, Constipation, Decreased libido, Dry skin & hair, Brittle nails, Puffy face, Cold intolerance, Less perspiration, Joint pains, Muscle aches, Heavy periods, Miscarriages, Infertility, High Cholesterol, Slow heart rate, Weaker heart. Blood Test shows High TSH level. Free T3 & Free T4 may be low. Thyroid Antibodies (Anti TPO & Tg) may be positive.
Hyperthyroidism (Overactive thyroid) Much more common in women, there is excessive production of thyroid hormones (T3 & T4) Common Symptoms are Jitteriness, Tremors, Nervousness, Irritability, Weight loss, Hair loss, Rapid & irregular heartbeat, Osteoporosis & fractures, Sleep disturbances, Short & irregular periods, Miscarriages, Infertility, Thyroid enlargement, Intolerance to heat, Increased sweating, Muscle weakness, Diarrhea, Prominent stare & Protrusion of the eyes. Blood Test shows High Free T3 & Free T4 along with low TSH levels.

Know the Three “Ts” of Thyroid
- Think about your Thyroid. Know the symptoms as mentioned above. Look for bulges or protrusions in the neck. Talk to your Doctor when you don’t feel well.
- Take your Medication. Be consistent. Take thyroid medicine at the same time every day. Same brand and correct dose of medicine is also critical.
- Track your Condition. Make sure to check your Blood Test for TSH and Free T3 & Free T4 from the laboratory regularly. Also make sure that these tests are conducted on Automated Analyzers in the laboratory premises itself and you get the results same day.
